A deep, opaque blue line of Neocaridina davidi. Identical in care to cherry shrimp — keep the colour line separate or offspring revert to wild brown.

Natural Habitat & Origin

A selectively bred line of Neocaridina davidi, a species native to freshwater streams in Taiwan and eastern China.

Care Requirements

Keep Blue Dream Shrimp at 18-28°C with a pH of 6.5-8.0. Tolerant of a wide range, which is why Neocaridina suit beginners. Stability matters more than any particular reading, and they need no copper in the water at all.

Diet & Feeding

Grazes biofilm continuously. Supplement with blanched vegetables and a quality shrimp food a few times a week.

Behaviour & Temperament

Constantly active and entirely peaceful. A colony spends the day picking over every surface.

Tank Mates

Best in a species tank or with very small peaceful fish. Anything large enough to eat a shrimp eventually will.

Breeding

Breeds readily in fresh water with no intervention — females carry eggs beneath the tail and release fully formed miniature shrimp.

Colour lines and breeding true

This is a selectively bred line of Neocaridina davidi — the same species as the cherry shrimp, and care is identical. Mixing colour lines in one tank produces offspring that revert toward wild brown within a few generations, so keep lines separate if you want the colour to hold.

Common Health Issues

Copper is lethal. Failed moults, usually from a sudden water change or insufficient minerals, are the other common cause of loss.
